Safety Information
  1. Placement. To prevent fire or electric shock, do not expose the unit to rain or moisture. Do not place the set on an unstable cart, stand, tripod, bracket or table to prevent it from falling. Keep the unit away from strong magnets, heat sources, direct sunlight, The unit is design for indoor use only.
  2. Installation. Ensure that the unit is installed in accordance with the instructions and illustrations provided in this manual.
  3. Caution. Do not push objects of any kind into the unit through openings; do not spill or spray liquid of any kind on or in the system (this may result in a fire or electric shock). Do not place anything heavy on the unit. To ensure proper ventilation and proper operation, never cover or block the slots and openings with a cloth or other material. Keep the unit away from an open flame such as fire, candle etc. The unit should only be serviced by authorized technical personnel.
  4. Disassemble. Do not attempt to disassemble the cabinet. There is a risk of electric shock. Contact qualified service personnel if your system needs repair.
  5. Cleaning. When cleaning, make sure the system is unplugged from the power source. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners. Use a cloth lightly dampened with water for cleaning the exterior of the TV only.
  6. Do not operate or store the unit close to flammable items or liquid.
  7. Keep the unit away from water, liquid and moisture.
  8. When not using the unit, unplug the AC/DC adaptor from the main socket.
  9. Power the unit only with the AC/DC adaptor provided.

Battery to back up unit settings in case of power outage


Powering the P8Z
Plug one end of the AC/DC adaptor into the DC IN 5V jack on the back of the player, then plug the other end into the 100~240 V AC power plug. Wait for about 3 seconds, picture or clock appears on the screen.

Sleep Timer
The P8Z has a built-in sleep timer which enables the unit to automatically turn off the audio output after a set period of time.

Click the SLEEP button until the period of time you desire is displayed. After the set period of time, the audio output will be turned off.

Functions

Clock

There are three methods to show the clock display:

  1. When the unit is powered on, the clock appears automatically on the screen.
  2. Press the MENU/OK button and the function menu will appear as below.
  3. In FM radio mode, press the FM/CLOCK button once and the clock will be displayed.

Changing the display mode of the clock:

With the clock displayed, press the SET button on the P8Z. A menu will appear with options as listed below. Press the LEFT or RIGHT buttosn to select the desired option, then press SET button to confirm selection.

      Return to the clock display
Analog Clock / Digital Clock
      Toggle between Digital Clock and Analog Clock display
Color Inverse
      Reverse the color of the display

Setting the time:

  1. Press the MENU/OK button on the side of the unit to show the function menu
  2. Press the LEFT or RIGHT button to highlight the Setting icon (Icon on far Right), and press MENU/OK button to enter the setting menu.
  3. Press the LEFT or RIGHT button to highlight the Time option.
  4. Press the SET button, the hour digits will be highlighted by a rectangle. Use the LEFT or RIGHT buttosn to adjust the hour setting.
  5. After setting the hour, press the SET button and use the LEFT and RIGHT buttons to adjust minute setting as in step (4) for hour setting.
  6. After setting the minutes, press the SET button and use the LEFT and RIGHT buttons to adjust second setting as in step (4) for hour setting.
  7. Press the SET button again to exit the time setting option.
  8. Use the LEFT or RIGHT buttons to highlight the Time Format option. Press the SET button and then use the LEFT or RIGHT buttons to select the time display format (24-hour or 12-hour) that you desire.

Radio

Press the MENU/OK button and the function menu will appear as below.

Press the LEFT or RIGHT button to highlight the Radio icon, and press the MENU/OK button to start the Radio. You can also press the FM/CLOCK button on the side of the unit to start the Radio.

If it is the very first time you use the radio on the P8& or if you have reset the unit, the following message “There is no pre-stored channel, do you want to do a scan” will appear on the screen. Press the LEFT or RIGHT button to choose the Yes option and press the SET button. The P8Z will begin to scan and store the radio channels automatically.

Setting your radio:

On the Radio screen, press the SET button on the side of the P8Z. A menu will appear on the screen with the options as shown below. Press the LEFT or RIGHT button to select the option desired, then press the SET button to confirm your selection.

Back

Return the Radio screen.

Manual Scan / Pre-stored Channel / Step

This option allows you to define the radio channel tuning method when the LEFT and RIGHT buttons are pushed in the Radio mode.
      When this option is selected, use the LEFT or RIGHT button to display Manual Scan (auto search and stop at next radio channel), Pre-stored Channel (jump to next pre-store radio channel) or Step (fine tuning).

Full Scan

This option will start the P8Z to search and save radio channels automatically. You can press MENU/OK button to interrupt the scan.

Save as Alarm Channel

Select the radio channel currently in play for Alarm Clock audio


Alarm

Press the MENU/OK button and the function menu will appear as below.

Press the LEFT or RIGHT button to highlight the Alarm icon, and press MENU/OK button to display the Alarm setting interface.

  1. Press the ALARM button to display Alarm 1 or Alarm 2 settings.
  2. Press the LEFT or RIGHT button to highlight (in red) the settings you need to adjust and press SET to select. The list of settings available (see below).
  3. Press the LEFT or RIGHT button to adjust the setting. When done, press the SET button to confirm setting.
  4. Press the ALARM button to exit the alarm setting menu.

ON / OFF
      Setting the alarm on or off.
-- : -- AM
      Press the SET button to choose Hour or Minute. Press the LEFT or RIGHT button to adjust the alarm time.
Working Day / Every day
      Setting the alarm to sound on a working day only, or evert dat.
Radio / Music / Buzzer
      Setting the type of alarm audio. Radio on uses radio for alarm, Music uses either the built-in melody or a music file on your SD card as the alarm, Buzzer uses a buzzer sound as the alarm.

Note:

  1. If you want to choose a radio channel as the alarm audio, you should set a radio channel for alarm audio on the Radio interface. See Save as Alarm Channel in the Setting your Radio section.
  2. If you want to choose a music file in your SD card as the alarm audio, you should set a music file for alarm audio on the Music Player interface. See Save as Alarm Music in the Music Player section. If the music file set is not available when alarm is on, the built-in melody will be used as the alarm..

When your alarm is ringing, press the SNOOZE button to pause the alarm. The alarm will sound again automatically after 5 minutes. To stop the alarm permanently, press any button EXCEPT the SNOOZE button.

If alarm is sounding, but no button is pressed to stop it, the P8Z unit will ‘auto-snooze’. The alarm will sound again in 5 minutes.

Calendar

Press the MENU/OK button and the function menu will appear as below.

Press the LEFT or RIGHT button to highlight the Calendar icon, and press MENU/OK button to display the Calendar.

Press the LEFT button to view the calendar of the previous month or the RIGHT button for the calendar of the next month.

Setting the date:

  1. Press the MENU/OK button on the P8Z to show the function menu.
  2. Press the LEFT or RIGHT button to highlight the Setting icon, and press the MENU/OK button to enter the Setting menu.
  3. Use the LEFT or RIGHT buttons to highlight the Date Format and press the SET button. There are two formats available: MM/DD/YY (Month/Day/Year) or DD/MM/YY (Day/Month/Year). Use the LEFT and RIGHT buttons to select your favorite date display format. When done, press the SET button to exit.
  4. Use the LEFT or RIGHT button to highlight the Date option. Press the SET button to highlight the first date field and use the LEFT or RIGHT button to adjust. When done, press the SET button to go to the second field and again use LEFT or the RIGHT button to adjust. When done, press the SET button to go to the third field (Year) and use the LEFT or RIGHT button to adjust. When done, press the SET button to exit. The DATE option will change back to amber color.

Changing the Display Mode of the Calendar:

With the Calendar displayed, press the SET button on the P8Z. A menu will appear with options as listed below. Press the LEFT or RIGHT button to select the desired option, then press the SET button to confirm selection.

Back
      Choose this to return to the Calendar interface.
Color Inverse
      Reverse the color of the display.


Photo Frame

Insert an SD memory card with photos (in JPEG format) into the SD/MS/MMC slot. Then press the MENU/OK button to show the function menu.

Press the LEFT or RIGHT button to highlight the Photo icon, and press MENU/OK button to start photo slideshow. If your memory card has music files (in MP3 format), the music file will also be playback at the same time.

Slideshow and Photo Control:

During the photos slideshow, press SET button on the back of the P8Z. The slideshow will be paused and a menu appears on the screen with options listed below. Press LEFT or RIGHT button to select the option desired and press the SET button to confirm.

Back

Choose this to return to the Photo interface.

Previous File

Choose this to display the previous photo and restart the slideshow.

Next File

Choose this to display the next photo and restart the slideshow.

View photo manually / Slide show

      View the photos manually or let the auto slideshow run.

Save as Start-up Photo

Choose this option to set the photo currently displayed as the start-up photo. When the P8Z is powered on, the start-up photo will appear on the screen before displaying the clock display.

Delete

Choose this and a warning “This file will be deleted. Are you sure?” will appear on the screen. Use the LEFT or RIGHT button to choose the YES option, and press the SET button to delete the photo currently displayed.

Copy to Flash

Choose this to copy the photo currently displayed to the internal memory of the P8Z. A message “This file will be copied to the memory. Are you sure?” will appear on the screen. Use the LEFT or RIGHT button to choose the YES option, and press the SET button to copy the photo.


Music Player
Insert your memory card with music files (in MP3 format) into the SD/MS/MMC slot. Press the MENU/OK button to show the function menu.

Press the LEFT or RIGHT button to highlight the Music icon and press MENU/OK button.

  1. A list of the music files on the memory card will be displayed and the playback will be started automatically with the first song listed.
  2. Press the LEFT or RIGHT button to choose the previous or the next music file to play.
  3. Press the Vol + or Vol - button on the player to adjust the volume.

In the Music mode, press the SET button on the P8Z.  A menu will appear with options as listed below. Press the LEFT or RIGHT button to select the desired option, then press the SET button to confirm selection.

Back
      Choose this to return to the music list.
Play / Pause
      Choose this to play or pause.
Stop
      Choose this to stop playback.
Save as Alarm Music
      Select the music file currently in play for Alarm Clock audio


Settings
Press the MENU/OK button and the function menu will appear as below.

Press the LEFT or RIGHT button to highlight the Photo icon, and press the MENU/OK button to display the Setting menu. The options available are as listed below:

Press the LEFT or RIGHT button to highlight the menu option desired.
Press the SET button to select, the color of the option selected will turn from amber to red.
Press the LEFT or RIGHT button to adjust setting.
After adjustment, press the SET button to exit, the color of the option will change back to amber color.

Slideshow Effect:

Select the type of slideshow transition effect: (All / Reel / 3D Circle / Wave / Open door / Drop / Block flip).

If the All options are selected, all of the available transition effects will be used in the slideshow.

Slideshow Interval:

Select the slideshow interval time: (3 Seconds / 10 Seconds / 30 Seconds / 1 Minute)

Slideshow with Music:

Set Music Slideshow with music file in the memory card: (MP3 in card / None)

Date Format:

Set the date display format: (MM/DD/YY, DD/MM/YY)

Time Format

Set the time display format: (12 Hours /24 Hours)

Date

Date setting adjustment: (Month-Day-Year / Day-Month-Year)

Time

Time adjustment: (Hour : Minute : Second)

Reset Setting

Restore to the factory default settings: (Yes / No)

Firmware Version

Display the firmware version number

Select Different OSD Languages:

  1. Go to RESET Setting (see above). Use the LEFT/RIGHT button to choose YES.
  2. Press the SET button to confirm.
  3. When asked to confirm, choose YES using the LEFT or RIGHT button and press the SET button to confirm.
  4. A pop-up message, "Please wait.." will appear.
  5. The P8Z will reset and then display the national flags of the different OSD languages that are available.
  6. Use the LEFT or RIGHT button to choose the language you desire and press SET to confirm. The P8Z will then enter the Clock mode.

Note : Please note that after reseting the P8Z, all the settings related to pre-stored radio channels, alarms, startup photo, and all other P8Z settings will be erased and restored to factory default.

CHINON USA, Warranty and Return Policy

The product is covered by a 1-year limited warranty from the date of purchase from CHINON. The warranty covers only defects in workmanship and materials. It does not apply to products which have been damaged due to unreasonable use or by intention nor does it cover dissatisfaction with the product. This warranty does not cover those products purchased from other individuals & resellers and is not transferable.

CHINON’s warranty policy only covers products purchased directly from CHINON. If you purchased the product from our website you will have been given a purchase number with your confirmation email. Please quote this number, along with your name and email address, in your dealings with us.

If you purchased the product from an authorized reseller, please contact them for their warranty information.

(a) CHINON’s return policy covers only defective products. All sales are final. Monetary refunds will not be issued for any reason.
(b) CHINON will only accept returns of defective product within 1 year of purchase, as stated in the warranty above.
(c) Defective products will be exhanged for new products within 60 days of purchase or will be repaired if after 60 days of purchase. There will be no monetary reembursement whatsoever.
(d) Please report to support@chinonusa.com or 847-540-2386 in order to ascertain the problem/defect.
(e) Customer will pay for one-way shipping to CHINON. There is no need to use any express or overnight service. CHINON will pay the shipping costs for the exchange product.

CHINON shall only be liable for:

(a) the replacement of a defective product with a new product.

CHINON shall NOT be liable for:

(a) injury to persons, or damage to property or consequential losses arising from the use of the product.
(b) a product that has been tampered with, altered, or been serviced by an unauthorized agent.
(c) damage due to the use of accessories that were not included with the product.
